Kerry-Lieberman energy & climate bill
So I am writing a short response for my class on the new and comprehensive energy and climate bill crunched out by Senator John Kerry and Joe Lieberman, and here is a very good (IMO) article talking about it: http://www.grist.org/article/kerry-lieberman-climate-bill-the-details/
Very little complaints here overall. It’s not perfect (and nothing is), but our existing system is in a huge need...

No good…
“Many local fishermen have been temporarily shut down but have been hired by British Petroleum (BP) to lay oil booms in sensitive areas.”
Well that is the very least BP could do. They better be paying the fishermen healthy amounts for putting them off work in the first place!

A week and counting now… going strong. Needless to say, without opening facebook every 5 minutes (literally), I’ve been much more productive! :D Let’s see if I could keep this up until post-finals.

No matter where we are from, what our beliefs are, how we look, and why we do the things we choose to, we really aren’t so different afterall. Why the conflicts, intolerance, and sorrow?
No Fooling Mother Nature - By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN →
“The only meaningful response to this man-made disaster is a man-made energy bill that would finally put in place an American clean-energy infrastructure that would set our country on a real, long-term path to ending our addiction to oil.”
So, so much truth in these words.

This project allows the Kunas to not rely on unsustainable power sources such as batteries or diesel-powered generators for their electricical needs, while at the same time...

My name is on that banner! :D

On the Issue of Water
In celebration of Water Awareness Month at UCSD (http://aquaholicsucsd.com), as well as for my own interest in spreading valuable knowledge to my friends, I have written the following note from a number of things I have learned from the movie screening of the film ‘Running Dry’ (http://www.runningdry.org), plus bits of my personal opinion and experience.
If you’d like, you can...

Stepping into Summer
The temperature change going from 2 miles from the coast to 20-some miles inland is pretty dramatic. When I was still in San Diego just last week, there would be a cloudy, misty haze until mid-afternoon and the sun would finally be allowed to show itself for a few beautiful hours before it runs past the horizon again. The ever-present ocean breeze keeps the thermometer from spiking high in the day...
Outgrow
I think I am outgrowing a chunk of my friends. It’s a terrible thought, but this thought just came into my mind as I was supposed to be typing out my final paper and I had to take note of this theory which seems so true now. Lately I have been easily aggrevated and seriously questioning how I can stand being in someone’s presense for even another minute. I have found myself trying to...
Misc. Wednesday Notes
Hill workout at Torrey Pines Rd this morning, together with Frank, Colin, and Adam. 4 runs up and down the hill. 2600 ft of climb over 23 miles. Sweet.
I visited my car at the body shop today. It has been 2 weeks since I brought her in, and I was pleasantly surprised that the repairs have come along very nicely. Everything except the front bumper has been repainted, the new soft top has been...
Oh, Spring...
Can I just say that it hailed & rained in San Diego today? Last I checked, we don’t get any rain in June! Meanwhile, up in lush, green Seattle, temperatures reached nearly 90 farenheit. What the hell is going on?
Ok, where was I…
So long gone are the days of “blogging” about the smallest daily happenings (Xanga, circa 2003). I doubt there will come a time when I will...

New production album from ATB with bits of nostalgia & bits of freshness. Recommended: ‘A New Day’, ‘Gravity’, ‘My Saving Grace’
Just saw Sara perform at Sun God. She is absolutely amazing live - her voice is so captivating. I quickly snatched her album over the weekend, and what a treat it is! Intriguingly, there’s a song titled ‘Gravity’...
What will we leave them?
As Earth Day rolls around for 2009, we see a magical unity of people from around the globe with the same ultimate cause to preserve our deteriorating planet. We hear voices of environmental activism in front of congress buildings. We feel the barks of carbon dioxide-absorbing trees as they are planted in parks and public spaces. We smell the sweet & fresh scent of a blooming flower field in...

On Writing.
I am reading Chairman Mao’s paper ‘On the Ten Great Relationships,’ and it inspired me to pick up my virtual pen for some writing on my own (and hence the similar title).
For a number of months now, it has come to my attention that the simple act of writing can be such an effective form of not only recording personal experiences, but conveying meaning to others who may see or...

Pre-Departure Run!
Leaving for Honduras later this evening (woohoo!)… and so my roommate threw me a special gift in the form of… an early morning run. Sadly, what was supposed to be a ~10.5-mile record distance run ended prematurely with a strained tendon on my foot. Nonetheless, it was a good workout with the fatty Torrey Pines hill that felt much easier than the similiarly long run 2 weeks ago :)
How about a late-night run?
Finals may have me strapped down in the library for 10 hours a day (& repeat for 4 days), but that ain’t stopping me from exercising and working towards the half-marathron. Tonight, I went for a run after coming back from the study-party, and it felt great. It was a misty night with temperatures in the mid 50’s and hardly any cars on the road (it was nearly midnight, afterall)....

I came across this excerpt from a reading and thought it makes a solid point:

and Jolly gets some exercising too!
I am back in Los Angeles for the weekend, which means I’m with the family and… Jolly! Took him out for a run (for the first time in… months, sadly), and a mighty good one at that. I felt really fresh after the run and caught my breath in very little time. All those long runs and bike rides are definitely doing their magic :)
Also, I think Santa Fe dam would make for a great...

Shall We Go For a Bike Ride?
I decided to take the Trek out for a mid-week workout. Taking it a bit easier because I have a final in 17 hours to study for, and also because my arm is (oddly) still sore from the MMR & Tetanus shots I got on Monday.
The Cateye tells me…

But MapMyRun tells me 14.43 miles, 17.8 mph avg… hmm!

Timed Mile, Trails, 11-mile Commute
Physically exhausted.
But I am happy to report that I have tied my personal record of 6:26 (from the track days in high school) in running those 4 laps around the track. If the thought of a 30-minute jog around the tree grove afterwards didn’t linger in my head, I think I would have given it more oomph in the last ~300m and trimmed that time down another 10 seconds or so. Anyhow, I WILL get...

That terribly hot morning workout..
80 degrees on a March morning, really?
Today I set a new record in the duration of my workout. Last week, Frank and I ran for 50 minutes at Rose Canyon. Despite the fact that I hadn’t run in the past 5 days (excuse: weekend was a ridiculous mixture of busy-ness and frustration), Frank asked (forced) me to move it up a notch to 60 minutes.
And I fared decently. While the pace was definitely...

Rose Canyon!
I’m up to 50 minutes now.
Frank brought me to Rose Canyon to run this morning. I’ve only been on the paved bike trail portion but never on the main strech for joggers and mountain bikers. The canyon looks unbelievably green due to the rains this past weekend and overall I think it is a good place to work those legs.
Anyway, the run. First off, wearing a black shirt was a BAD idea. I...
Santa Barbara Camping Trip
For my Structural Geology class :)
On Saturday evening, I ran along the road for ~40 minutes. The air was crisp, the temperature was at a very comfortable high 50’s (I think), and it began sprinkling a few minutes into the run. I felt great throughout the workout and sadly had to call it a day before my legs waved the white flag simply because it was getting too dark. I am also pretty...
Workout Day 2
My warmup today comes in the form of biking to school (specifically, the track in north campus) which is about a 2.5mi ride from my apartment. I met up with my roomie Frank, who will be running the half-marathon too as well as the full marathon at the end of May.
We started our 50-minute jog today with a loop around the eucalyptus tree grove just east of ERC/RIMAC, which is a neat dirt trail with...
First Day of Workout
First day training in preparation of the La Jolla Half-Marathon which will be on April 26th.
I jogged 20 minutes on the treadmill and covered 2.10 miles. Warmed up with a 4.0-4.5mph pace walk for ~0.15 miles and then sped it up to ~6.5mph the rest of the way.
I was then on the bicycle trainer for about 12 minutes. 89 average cadence. I want to say the average speed was 18mph.
